What Does Tooth Sensitivity While On Augmentin Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: I recently was treated with Augmentin (875 mg tab 2X day, 10 days finished 12/10/2016). Indication was respiratory infection that progressed into pneumonia.
I now have hypersensitive tooth that my dentist wants to attempt to save the nerve by treating me with clindomycin (300mg 4x day, 10 days) .
I am concerned about C-dif with that much antibiotic treatment within a month and a half. I observed my father similarly treated and we nearly lost him to C-dif

Am I being overly concerned?

Brief Answer:
Probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora and prevent side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

It's true that you've been on antibiotics for such long time. However, their benefits overcomes the side effects.

Now, to avoid c.diff and Candida overgrowth, I usually recommend my patients to take:
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- metronidazole orally

Usually no side effect will get although you have a family history of c.diff.

Increase fluids intake especially plain water and yougurt.

Hope this helps.
