Question: Today , I have done Urine RE for my 17 days old boy as advice from pediatrician as my baby is crying before & during urination(but not always) and urine frequency is very high i.e say sometimes every 30 mins or sometimes even after 5 -10 mins interval.

Apart from that there is no other symptoms like : Fever, irritation, vomiting , diarrhea & smelly urine and no lack of feeding.
Once more worry for me is baby is feeding XXXXXXX on Enfamil A+ stage1 and Breast feeding is not adequate i.e 120 ml approx per day (due to lack of breast milk production).

I have attached the Urine RE report attached which say Bacteria present and Alkaline in nature. Please let me know the concern , whether it is UTI or something others related.

any concern about the present of bacteria and alkaline? Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
This is a normal report - not UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I understand your concern.

This is a normal report. This is not suggestive of UTI.

You have been very wise in quoting the other symptoms absence - which means even symptomatically we need not suspect UTI.

The frequency of urine like this is normal in this season due to ambient temperature.

Moreover crying before passing is common till 3-6 months of age. This is because babies of this age feel the bladder sensation as abnormal and react by crying to it. Actually there will not be any pain. Cry is the only mode of expression in this age group.

The proof of this is that the baby will immediately stop crying after urination is over. If it is really pain or burning sensation due to UTI then the cry should continue for sometime even after urination stops.
