Question: Hi,

Am pregnant now with 33 week running.

Today i had Growth scan
Report for all parts seems to be normal except for Kidney.

Doctor who did scan mentioned in the report that
Urinary Tract:

L.kidney L 43mm
L.Pelvis A-P 7.4mm
Ureters normal/Notvisible
Bladder normal

Comments:
Fetal Kidneys : Unilateral Left Pelviectasis
Right Kidney and bladder appear normal.

What it exactly means.?
How can i make it normal?
What are the necessary steps needs to be taken going further?
How serious it is?Will that affect my baby after delivery?

Please Advice.

Thanks in Advance.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Unilateral fetal pyelectasis means slight dilatation of the fetal urine collecting system in the kidney.
The cut off diameter of renal pelvis to be marked as fetal pyelectasis is 7 mm in third trimester.
So, it is just borderline in your case and not much to be worried about.
Unilateral fetal pyelectasis can be due to anomalies like pelviureter junction obstruction, or slight obstruction somewhere in the passage of the urine. Such minimal dilatation usually gets resolved spontaneously after birth.
There is no method to treat it in antenatal period.
The baby should get a ultrasound in neonatal period to assess the condition of renal system.
Further treatment should be done accordingly.
I suggest you not to worry as it is not a major problem.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
