What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Question: I had an US that showed a 1.0 x 0.6 x 0.9 cm hypoechoic mass. It also showed a fatty liver. I have elevated cholesterol but am Negative for hepatitis A-C.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. A well defined hypoechoic lesion in liver measuring 1.0 x 0.6 x 0.9 cm is not a concern for cancer but needs to be reviewed after a few months by doing another ultrasound scan. It will help to know whether you have any liver related clinical symptoms and the reason you underwent the ultrasound scan.
2. The MRI scan has been ordered to characterise the lesion and will help to understand the nature in relation to content and blood supply.
3. Since you have tested negative for hepatitis A, B and C , therefore viral hepatitis associated cancer is unlikely.
4. If you were to be my patient then I would proceed with the MRI and request another ultrasound scan in 3 months time to review the liver lesion and look for any new lesions.
5. However to me it appears that you most likely have a benign lesion which is harmless. I have served in a cancer institute for years and a lesion like the one you have does not really fit in to cancer. It is important to follow up in 3 months just to make a double confirmation.
