Posted on Tue, 17 Nov 2015
Question: Dear Doc. I was detected with a TSH level of 14.31 on 5th XXXXXXX 2015 while the T3 was 114, and T4 7. I was then prescribed Eltroxin 100mg by a local MBBS Doc here. I again tested my TSH on 17th Sep and it read 0.72". Is it possible to bring down the TSH level so low in such short span of time? I showed this report to my Doc he asked me to stop taking the medicine for the time being. Please advise the right treatment for this problem. Due to stoppage of this medicine once again I've started feeling heavy headed and lethargic.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of "subclinical hypothyroidism"

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, Hi
Good afternoon.

After having gone through the history given in your query, I am of the opinion that you have a thyroid problem called "subclinical hypothyroidism" and for that you were prescribed Eltroxin 100 MICRO gram by your doctor in the month of XXXXXXX 2015. Since you have responded to the treatment hence the level of TSH was reduced on September 17th. Usually it takes 6-8 weeks time for the high TSH to respond to the treatment with Eltroxin.

Since, you have started getting symptoms of headache and lethargy after stopping the treatment, the dose of Eltroxin should be reduced.
Had you been my patient I would have advised you to take 75 MICRO gram of Eltroxin and then repeat the tests after 4-6 weeks to check the response.

Hope the suggestion given above could help you in getting the treatment.

Best regards.
