What Does This Sputum Test Report Indicate?

Question: In sputum test for AFB, result shows in same day-
AFB not found.
Epithelial cells - present (+)
Pus cells - present ( a few)
Microorganism - present
This is for my father age 76 yrs.
what does it mean sir?

I can understand your concern.
This sputum report is negative for tuberculosis (AFB). It shows pus cells and microorganism.
So possibility of lung Infection (other then tuberculosis) is more, but I need more information like
1. What are his symptoms?
2. Since how many days he is having these symptoms?

Left ribs pain. Back pain.
2. For last two months.
Chest X-ray says hyper inflative changes are seen at both lung fields. Pleural thickening is noted in both apices. Scarry fibrosis is seen in both upper zones. HRCT OF THORAX reveals - fibro-calcified lesions in bilateral lung fields and a fibrotic mass in left upper lung. Fracture ln left transverse process of D8 & D9 vertebra with a haematoma 30*24 mm in postero lateral paraspinal region also extending into adjacent epidural space.
He is not having coughing.

Looks like he is having chronic bronchitis and old Pulmonary tuberculosis.

I can understand your concern.
His HRCT report is suggestive of fibrotic lesions with hyperinflation.
These are indicative of chronic bronchitis and old Pulmonary tuberculosis.
Chest pain and back pain are seen in bronchitis.
Bronchitis needs inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
Please let me know
1. Is he smoker?
2. Which drugs he is taking at present?
3. Was he having tuberculosis in the past?
4. Is he having shortness of breath on exertion? Is he tired very easily?
