Question: Thank you for your time & expertise.
As a result of a recent blood test, my total choleste
rol was 248, with Triglycerides at 69, HDl at 75, VLDL at 14, and LDL at 159. My doctor wants me to take a statin to lower my numbers. With the controversy of the side effects on heart, liver & muscle pain, I am seeking an alternative strategy. What is your advise?

Brief Answer:
For the moment, no need for statin...

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I have gone through your lipid profile test results and I noticed slightly elevated levels of total cholesterol and LDL levels, while your HDL is perfect together with triglycerides levels.

At this point, if I was your caring doctor would advise to start with changes in your lifestyle and diet regimen first for at least 3 months.

After 3 months, would ask to run another test. Depending on the results, and after evaluating your health condition, would decide on starting statin drug. For the moment, I do not think you need a statin. But, I do think you need strong willing to following strict changes in your diet and lifestyle regimen.

Hope it helped! Let me know if you have further queries!
