What Does This Echocardiogram Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: I just had an EKG at a doctor's visit to start a weight loss program. The EKG revealed "borderline ECG" and "slight inferior repolarization disturbance" and "small negative T in a VF" and "with negative T in III"

Of course it's a holiday and I can't book an appointment with the cardiologist until tomorrow. I'm starting to panic. The doctor who did the EKG said not to worry, but I am. I'm having anxiety over not having answers as to what this all means. Should I have serious concerns and go to an emergency room?

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that T wave variations in the inferior leads are not rarely seen in normal healthy adults. They may be explained with several components like:

- body habitus
- round thorax
- overweight
- pulmonary components (like in emphysema, etc.).

So, there is nothing to be concerned of, as far as you have no complaints. There is no need to run to the ER service.

You should know that generally ECG is a complementary test that when coupled with clinical symptomatology and other tests, helps in concluding the diagnosis.

But in the absence of any primary clinical symptomatology the above ECG findings do not seem to have any clinical relevance in regard of any acute serious illness.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
