Brief Answer:
To me it looks more like fibroadenoma breast

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

The picture and description fits in to a fibroadenoma breast and at times a similar picture can also be visualised in breast cyst.

It is important to know that the area is 3 x 4 mm and too small.

The structure of the lesion is well defined.

To me it appears more like a fibroadenoma than a cyst. However only the doctor doing the ultrasound will get the best idea of its appearance.

Please note that a lesion of this size is usually harmless and you do not have any serious problem.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

can fibroadenoma increase the risk of breast cancer? is it necessary to get it removed? is it fluid filled or solid?

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Small fibroadenomas do not require removal

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.

Fibroadenomas can be grouped as simple or complex. Simple ones are usually up to 3 mm and are not associated with cancer risk.

It is not required to be removed because the size is too small. But still I suggest that you have another sonomammogram done after 6 months. However if your doctor insists then you can proceed after discussing in detail

A fibroadenoma is solid tissue. Rarely it can get converted from solid to cystic due to degenerative changes. Please note that this is too rare.

this is 3-4 mm.. so it is not a simple one?

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It still looks like a simple fibroadenoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.

Your lesion looks like a simple one in the picture even if it is 3 to 4 mm. There is no strict rule that anything larger than 3 mm is complex. There are other features which denote a complex fibroadenoma. In my opinion I will still call yours a simple fibroadenoma.

I have worked in a cancer hospital for years and used to see many patients every day having problems like the one you have. Usually such patients were asked to follow up after 6 months. Nowdays, a patient can be asked to get a MRI mammogram if the referring doctor has any doubts about it.

Hope your query is answered.

thank you. will mri mammgrom rule out doubts about malignancy? should I take one now as I am not yet 30?

is there any chance that this fibroadenoma can turn malign?

Brief Answer:
MRI mammography is safe at your age

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your update.

In MRI mammography we give an injection and then trace an enhancement curve of suspicious lesions in the breast. Depending on the enhancement pattern, there is a possibility to suspect a malignancy or benign lesion.

MRI mammography is safe and can be done at your age as a problem solving tool given that there is a finding in the sonomammogram.

If you have a fibroadenoma then it is unlikely to turn malignant, given the size and appearance. However a follow up is always recommended.

Hope your query is answered.
