Posted on Tue, 27 Dec 2016
Question: Hi, I have High Leucocytes (11.9) and High Neutrophiles (8.7). I had two consecutive results with High Leucocytes (11.7) and High Neutrophiles (8.6) with 9 months differences.
I have no other symptoms that i can think of... i maybe need more sleep and i have less energy.
I know it is a bit thin to ask a question. I have stable blood pressure 115/80. I have type 2 diabetes (3 months test 7.4), I take Janumet 1000 to control diabetes. Also have Cholesterol problem that is controlled (i take atorvastatine 80mg)
I also take asaphen 81mg every day. I am 52 years old. Never smoked, i don't take any alcohol.
So why suddenly that increase in those two values ? What should I be looking for ? should i be afraid of leukemia or else ? Thanks for your kind answer :) (Ps : no known Cancer in my close family)

Brief Answer:
Not suggestive of leukemia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

These reports show slightly high total leucocyte counts and neutrophil counts. Nothing of serious concern and it has stayed at same level over 9 months.

Neutrophil count is not an indicator of leukemia. It rises in infection or any kind of stress. Since you don't have any features of infection, it is probably an incidental finding in you. And as it is not rising further, there is nothing to worry.

Hope this helps.

I forgot to say that have "GOUTTE" and that i take Allopurinol everyday. Can it be a possibility for the rise in Leukocytes and Neutrophils ? You also mentioned "stress" as i am an entrepreneur who never took one day of vacation since May 2012. i have to say i am living in stressful moment as I am trying to build a larger company. Can it also be a source ? Sorry for coming back with questions, but i am the type of persons that tries to get the source of a problem to fix it. There is something that makes my numbers go higher and i want to pin point possible solution to hopefully get regular number in my next blood tests :) Thanks again for your time.

Brief Answer:
Yes they can be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Gout and too much stress can cause such mild rise of neutrophil counts. You should try to reduce your stress levels and continue treatment for gout as usual.
