What Does This Biopsy Test Result Indicate?
Question: I am a 47 yo w/history of fibroadenomas. I have had four benign biopsies. They found two new ones and I will have them biospied on Monday ... they are as follows:
1- a 14mm dominant oval heterogeneous nodule which is not parallel to the sagittal projection (3.oo axis, left side, 3.00 axis, 2-3cm from nipple)
2- a 6mm complex nodule (11.00 axis, 6cm from nipple)
From those descriptions, what speaks to benign on each and what speaks to malignant?

1. BIRAD ( Breast imaging and reporting data system) is a way of reporting mammograms. Class 4 is definitely not malignant but requires biopsy in view of look of the nodule.
2. Though appears benign nodule with calcification, heterogenous and complex appearance makes biopsy necessary.
3. Looking at past biopsies and present BIRAD 4, I presume this will also turn out to be benign and not malignant.
4. Therefore I suggest you stay relaxed and dont worry about malignancy

I read that a non parallel (taller than it is wide), speaks strongly to malginancy. What is your response?

This has to be combined evaluation of appearance of nodule with previous history. Malignant nodules will be more distorted and heterogenous than what you have described. This description with previous history is more suggestive of benign in nature.
