Question: Suggestion on surgery

Answered by Dr. Mahaveer Patil (40 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Needs surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.

I have gone through the attached X ray report.

The child seems to be suffering from " BILATERAL-DEVELOPMENTAL DYSPLASIA OF HIP ".

The right hip is deformed more and the head of femur is out of the socket (dislocated).

The left hip is also deformed to significant extent and is on the verge of getting dislocated.

Such conditions are congenital and at the age of 2 years, surgical option is the only treatment option that will give better results.

Conservative treatment options like plaster, hip spicas, pelvic splints etc help only during early months of life and these have very little role to play when the patient's age is above 2 years.

Realigning the dislocated hip below the acetabulum socket by surgical means is the best treatment option and should be done as early as possible to avoid further complications.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any further queries that you may have.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Query answered

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Yes, she needs surgery on both hips.

Whether both hips can be operated in a single setting or one hip surgery at a time depends upon the operating surgeon's decision and his skills.

You should consult a specialist paediatric orthopedic surgeon near you.

Thank you.

I wish the child a speedy recovery and a healthy life.

Kind regards.
