What Does This X Ray Of Uterine Cavity Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: The uterine cavity is well opacified and is of normal size & shape

There is no evidence of intrinsic or extrinsic filling defect seen.

Only proximal part of the left fallopian tube is well delineated and is of normal calibre.

Right tube is never visualised beyond its cornual end, inspite of good amount of contrast in the uterus. However no free peritoneal spill is seen on either side.

IMPRESSION:
No free peritoneal spill is demonstrated suggesting blocked tubes.

What does it mean? Is there any solution? Can i still go for ivf?

Brief Answer:
AS BELOW

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
The report concerned is an HSG - hystero ( uterus ) salpingo ( tube ) gram.
It is an X ray of the uterus and tubes taken after XXXXXXX injection.
If both tubes are open, which is normal, then the XXXXXXX will spill out from both tubes and will be seen on X ray.
In your case, it is suggestive of blockage of both tubes as XXXXXXX is not seen on either side.
Now, the treatment for this is IVF .
When tubes are blocked, natural conception is impossible, so IVF has to be done.
ONe more step, before going for IVF, you should go for hysterolaparoscopy.
THis is direct laparoscopic examination of tubes after XXXXXXX injection.
Sometimes, HSG can give false negative result, laparoscopy will confirm.
Minor reasons for tubal blockage like adhesions etc can be removed by laparoscopy also.
SO please go for laparo- hysteroscopy for confirmation of HSG diagnosis, and then if the tubal blockage is confirmed, go for IVF.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
