Question: Hello this is XXXXX I am 18 years old and have some questions. My MRI reveals "grade 2 signal changes in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus."
No damage to ligaments and articular cartilage.
The pain suddenly started one morning after 2 weeks of a bad ankle sprain. How could it ?
There has been no locking but once it felt like the bones slid over each other when i was walking. Kind of gave away. But there is this occasional aching pain in medial side. I really havent been walking last 2 months. Should i use a brace ? unloader ?
Every doctor has said no to arthroscopy. They say it will heal on its own. But dont the Meniscus lack blood supply ?
The thing is I am an avid basketball player so the constant pivoting and cutting of direction. And wish to continue the game.
I wish to know your respected opinions. And I also want to add that lately I have been feeling weak in the other knee too and it feels loose. But its Mri came back Completely Normal. What do you think ?

I know these are many questions. I am sorry. Im just depressed. Please respond ?

Brief Answer:
Minor changes due to inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Grade 2 signal changes in the medial meniscus can happen due to minor inflammation due to stress. These are minor changes and are reversible with rest and mild anti inflammatory medicines.
A bad ankle sprain with no rest puts stress on the knee causing pain and inflammation due to a bad posture. Using an elastic brace will help in providing extra support to the knee and will reduce the inflammation.
Rest is the main thing. Such minor changes do not need an arthroscopic repair.
The feeling of weakness in other knee is also due to muscle fatigue caused by change in posture.
No need to worry.
I hope this answers your query.

Sir, thank you so much for this. You dont know how much this means to me.
I had some questions doc.

So what Do I do now ? I mean I have had rest for like a month and a week. And it is basically still the same. It is like My sprain has been fine. Then How Do i correct my Posture ? And just so you know , I have flat feet and probably that is making my knees turn inwards along with my femur. Is it ? What should I basically do for my other knee ? If I wear brace on Both knees it feels fine. Should i wear on Both? And will this muscle fatigue in other knee heal on its own ? It just feels like I am hyperextending it. But The Mri says Completely Normal ( Other knee). Will I be able to competely get back to sports ? AND

Sir, another question.
One Ortho looked at my standing xrays of both knees. And said I had medial compartment joint space narrow. And made me buy unloader braces for both knees. Other Doctors looked at the xray and said it is all normal. Im just 18. Even the reports say TibioFemoral Joint spaces are normal. But when I look at the xrays it scares . Do I have Osteoarthritis ? You got my Mri right sir ? Im sending my xray too. Please can you enlighten me ?

Brief Answer:
Use the knee supports or braces.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
As you have rested for more than month, it is best to use knee supports on both the knees. Using the correct shoe type after consulting an orthopedic surgeon will help. You can also use shoe inserts or insoles. The muscle fatigue will heal as soon as the posture is corrected. Learning appropriate exercises to strengthen knee muscles by a physiotherapist will also help.
You will be able to return back to sports. No need to worry. MRI scan is a more accurate investigation than X-ray. No osteoarthritic changes are detected on MRI. I have seen the attached X-ray also. The medial joint space is not much reduced.
Hope my answer is helpful.
