What Does The Following Thyroid Profile Test Result Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I am a 37 year old female, unmarried. During my recent routine body check up, TSH was found to be 10.95. After a week (this week) I went for Anti TPO test which came as 105 and another TSH which went up to 12.85. Also my fasting / Post-lunch blood sugar is 62/74. All other profiles are normal. I want to understand if the reports are worrying and if so what should I do next.

P.S: I went for the routine check up due to health problems for the past 2-3 weeks. Having headache, unsteady feeling, high loss of hair, lack of sleep/unable to sleep, irregular bowel etc.

Brief Answer:
Subclinical hypothyroidism most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query and reports. It gives the impression of subclinical hypothyroidism due to autoimmune reason. As you having clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism therapy with thyroxine supplementation will be helpful. Free T3 and T4 should be done also. Changes in your blood sugar can be due to slow metabolism due to hypothyroidism.

Initially should be started with low dose thyroxine like 25 or 50. Follow up with TSH should be done after 4 to 6 weeks. Dose should be adjusted according to TSH levels. Once the normal levels are attained then you can have a follow up with your doctor and TSH monitoring in 3 to 6 months intervals.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
