What Does The Following Semen Analysis Report Suggest?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Aug 2015
Question: Hello. I recently got a semen analysis done with the following results and want to get a sense of current probabilities of getting pregnant naturally:

Volume: 5.3
Concentration: 0.65 mil
Motility: 14%
Forward Progression: 1.3
Total Motility Count: 0.48 million
W.H.O. Morphology: 4%
Kruger Morphology: 0%
Ant-Sperm Antibodies: 0%

I got these results done at a lab that was out-of-network and will be doing a second analysis at a new doctor/lab that is in-network in the coming weeks.

Given this data, what are the approximate odds of conceiving naturally? When I was told the results, the doctor (whom I prefer not to see because he is out-of-network) mentioned IVF was an option, which leads me to believe that the odds are essentially zero of anything happening naturally. I am relatively healthy. 220 pounds, no medications. I do have Thalassemia Minor.

I recognize that there might be treatment for me that can improve the above, but what are the current odds of conceiving naturally under no treatment, what treatment options are available, and in general with second opinions is it a good idea to mention to the second doctor/lab the results of the first lab? Or better not to mention to not impact the second diagnosis? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
There are very remote chances of natural pregnancy .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts and report of your semen analysis that you have posted I would state that you have Oligoasthenoterratozoospermia, meaning there by that all the parameters like your sperm count ,sperm motility and morphology of the sperms are not within normal range of WHO standards to have effective fertilization to result into pregnancy.

The Kruger morphology which is very reliable tool to determine fertility of a man is almost zero suggesting that there are no possibility of natural pregnancy .

Please consult qualified Infertility specialist and reproductive center to explore possibility of pregnancy with the help of newly assisted reproductive techniques like IVF or ICSi.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you for the reply. Would this be due to external factors? Can weight, diet, occasional drug use be the cause of this? Or are the results so low as to suggest that it is unrelated to the diagnosis?

Hello
Thanks for follow up.
In spite of extensive research in the field of reproductive science we are still in dark as regards the cause of the morphological abnormalities of sperm .It is definitely not related to diet, weight,or use of drugs.

Thanks and Regards.
