What Does The Following Chest X-ray Report Indicate?
Question: Question for Pulmonologist.
Hello Doctor,
My father, 68 years old, recently had a chest x-ray done. The report indicated the following:
Accentuated bronchovascular markings in B/L lung parenchyma, Increased cardiothoracic ratio (15.7:24.3), Obiliterated BL/CP angles. The rest seemed normal. What does the above diagnostics mean? Just to let you know that he was diagnosed with asthma three years ago and had an asthma attack seven months ago.

Prominent bronchovascular markings are normally seen in patients of asthma, COPD and in smokers. It does not mean anything in particular except that patient may have had repeated acute exacerbations of asthma or COPD.
Increased CT ratio means that his heart may be enlarged, which can happen in many heart conditions esp hypertension. Does he suffer from high BP?
Obliterated bil cp angles may mean infection in the pleura resulting in pleural thickening or accumulation of fluid in bilateral pleural cavities. You may get a USG chest done to rule out effusion and a ECHO cardiogram done and consult a cardiologist because some times because of heart conditions also there is accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavities.

Can you please review the x-ray image that I have posted and give me your opion on it? Is the medication that he is currently taking sufficient for his condition or does he need additional medication?

If he is alright then these inhalers are enough for now.

I have already seen the x-ray film and the report and only then gave my opinion.
If his symptoms are controlled with foracort and tiova, he must continue both the inhalers .
He should be under constant supervision of his pulmonologist and in case of acute exacerbation, he may have to be put on other medicines.
