Brief Answer:
It depends on your or surgeons preferrence.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM
I am Dr Nishad BN Resident orthopedic surgeon.

I have gone through your query. Femoral IM nail can be removed if you want to or your surgeon prefers it. Usual time for removal is 1 to 2 years from the surgery date. If more than two years then it will be difficult to remove. Removal also depends on the strength of your bone. So you can discuss with your surgeon about this. Some surgeons don't prefer to remove due to complications.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
