default
Posted on Fri, 6 Jun 2014
Question: Hello, I just made the overall blood and kidney test, everything was ok and on average, however, the protein level in my urine was +1, knowing that Im 27 years old 5'8 and 157 pounds. I do workout and use whey protein supplements often. The doctor asked me to retake the 24 hr urine test. Is there anything to worry about ?

Brief Answer:
I need further detail.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I have read your query in detail. I understand your concern.

Protein +1 can be found in urine in many conditions, that are pathological and also in some physiological conditions like Fever, Excerise. But is unlikely to occur due to protein supplements.

I need a few more details to help you better:

1. Why did you get Kidney function test done and Urine for Albumin.
2. Any history of fever?
3. Any history of any urinary tract infection?
4. What is your serum albumin level, that you can find in your Liver function test report?
5. Any history of severe dehydration?
6. Any history of swelling in legs or around eyes?
7. What is your blood pressure?
8. Attach all the reports here.
This is my best advice for you with the available details, if you have any further query, please ask me and revert with the answers of the questions I have asked preferably in point wise manner.

Hello,

I decided to get my kidney test out of curiosity, and just to make sure that I am in a good health, until I was shocked with my protein level.

Regarding to questions 2,3,5,6 I do not have any of those. I am not sure about question 4.

My blood pressure is 120/80.

Just additional information
My cholesterol is 188.3
Creatinine is 1.11

Thanks for help XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Get tested

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
See as I told you there can be protein in urine in many normal and pathological conditions, so we should do further workup.
I would advice you following:
1. 24 hour urine for protein OR Alternatively you can go for Spot Urine Protein to Creatinine ratio.

2. Liver Function Test

I would strongly suggest you to get these investigations only from a reliable lab like Dr Lal Path Labs, SRL Ranbaxy.

Review me with reports.

If you have any further query please ask me.
Stay healthy.

Question

First of all I live in saudi arabia, so I do not have access to the mentioned clinic

So my question is, since there is neither blood pressure nor diabetes as my sugar level is 80.5. + I do not see any of the symptoms such as swelling in face and legs Is it normal to have this amount of protein ?

Brief Answer:
Detail follows

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
It's all right. You can get tested at any well renowned lab in Saudi Arabia only.
I understand that you don't have any problem.
But Protein in urine should be nil.
So this is what we want to see that it was a lab error or you have some underlying condition accidentally detected.
So get tested and be sure.
Stay Healthy.
