What Does Persistent Vomiting In A Child With Congenital Heart Defects Indicate?
Question: Hi my name is Nikki and I have a son with congential heart defects birth date 12/27/07
He was born with Aortic Atresia, Hypoplastic Aorta, and VSD. He has had 2 open heart surgeries at age 2 weeks and 2 years old. He is having issues currently with vomiting for the last two weeks.
His current meds are enalapril and furosimide. We have had labs to check for cyliac and any other issues and all come back normal. His energy does not seem to be hindered at all just the throwing up.
we are running tests but unsure of what is going on. My question is if it is possible to be in congestive heart failure that would be causing this but not have any of the other syptoms. He does have a light cough. No swelling of the hands and feet. no weight gain.

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.
In my opinion these symptoms are not related to congestive heart failure and other causes of vomiting should be found out.
I am doing my post grad in cardiology and through all this time I have not seen these symptoms in a congestive heart failure patient in isolated manner.
In my opinion other causes of vomiting should be hunted up he may be having stomach issue, gut issues, Bp fluctuations, vertigo, or pain in any area , intracranial pressure raise, tumor in brain etc(i am sorry to mention such dangerous causes but it's my duty to guide you and meanwhile give my input as ideas), there are many other reasons of vomiting.
But as of now doctors have ruled out gut issues they should be looking to other causes of vomiting. If they find no cause then we usually start anti emeitc medication in regular basis.
