Posted on Fri, 11 Jul 2014
Question: I received a copy of my ultrasound and I am trying to understand it. For my right ovary it states: size 4.4x2.2x2.8 cm, volume is 13.0cc, Doppler obtained is normal blood flow, mobility is normal. Appearance is irregular appearing right adnexa with multiple areas of cystic change and little visualized right ovarian parenchyma. There is also evidence of microlithiasis.

Left ovary is 6.6x2.8x2.5 cm and appearance is the entire left adnexa is occupied by a multicystic septated structure.

What does all this mean in lay men's term?

Brief Answer:
You have complex left ovarian cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM

I have gone through your findings in detail.
You are suffering from complex left ovarian cyst and multiple simple cysts in right ovary.
It is important to know your symptoms.
You need few more investigations like contrast CT scan of abdomen and tumour markers. This is important due to your age.Though chances of malignancy in left ovary is less,it is important to rule out malignant reasons.
At present you need follow up scanning for left complex ovarian cyst.If symptoms or size persists then you may need surgical removal.
Right ovary has benign findings and it is not the cause for concern.
Proper treatment depend upon findings.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
Further queries are most welcome.
