Posted on Mon, 25 Aug 2014
Question: Hi. My husband went for semen analysis and following was the report.
Quantity -1ml
No of spermatozoa - 4.15
Total sperm count per ejaculate - 4.15
Sperm motility IV - 5%, Ill-15%,lI- 10%,l- 70%
Fructose present
Oligospermia with hypomotility

My husband did mention to me after submission of semen that the quantity of semen was lesser than normal. Does that affect the reading because the min required as per report was 1.5 . should we get another test done? Thank you in advance for your analysis n advice.

Brief Answer:
Yes, your husband need repeat evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Yes, your husband need repeat evaluation.
Sample should be collected after a minimum of 48 hours of sexual abstinence.

Ideally two semen samples should be collected for initial evaluation. Time interval between the collections should not be less than 7 days or more than 3 months apart. So, your husband can be reassessed after 7 days.

Amount of semen can vary in same individual and it depends upon many factors. Analysis of multiple semen analysis is a reliable screen in the evaluation of male factor infertility.

He should do exercise and take nutritious diet.
Avoid alcohol and smoking if he take these things.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.
