What Does My Nuchal Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: I am 24Yrs old, 69Kg, 13W3D Pregnant. NT Scan showed my placenta is anterior low, NT is 2.0 mm, CRL is 70.7mm, Endocervical length is 30.0mm. I occasionally(weakly once) get a white discharge...

Is 'anterior low' is considered as low lying placenta or Is on the cervix?
On googling, it seems there are chances of bleeding? If so when and why? what should I do, if it happens?
What should I do, to make the placenta go up?
Is using Squat toilet advisable?
I have to travel(400Km) to my native? Can I do it in the car?
Am advised to reduce the spice and sour in the food, why?

Brief Answer:
In 90% of cases placenta moves upwards

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
Iam Dr.Srilatha gynaecologist.I have gone through your query.
In my opinion your ultrasound findings like NT,cervix length and other parameters are normal.
Anterior low means low lying placenta.Placenta can be anterior or posterior or fundal. These are the different positions of placenta in the uterus.Low means low lying placenta ie.,in the lower segment of uterus.
Usually the placenta is in upper segment of uterus. This low lying placenta causes painless, recurrent or irregular spotting or bleeding sometimes.
It is not uncommon to find low lying placenta in the early pregnancy. It spontaneously moves upwards in 90% of cases by the end of pregnancy. So you need not worry.
There are no things we could do to move it up.But appropriate care should be taken till it reaches up like avoid physical strain, intercourse etc.Take good rest.
The position of placenta can be known by serial ultrasounds.
White discharge can be normal mucus secretions. But if it is curdy white with itching then candidial infection is a possibility. And you might need antifungals for it.
Squating is not a problem.
Usually long journeys are restricted to 2 nd trimester ie13-28 weeks. But as you have low lying placenta you need to be extra careful.
Air journey is preferred of all.But if that is not possible then car journey can be done provided if the road is good.Avoid sudden jerks during the journey.
Avoiding spicy and sour diet is to prevent gastritis.Gastritis is routinely found during pregnancy. This spicy and sour diet might provoke or increase gastritis. So better if they are avoided.
Over all nothing to worry about low lying placenta.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha

Thanks Srilatha, for your detailed reply...

I usually have severe lower abdominal pain on the first day of the periods, does this anyway affects my womb or placenta or its placement?

What's the usual position of the baby in the womb? While taking NT scan, the baby was in sideways position... Does low-lying placenta affects the baby's positions? Or the baby positions have an influence on womb growing sideways/vertical, does this have any say on the placenta moving away from its low position?

Are there any cases low anterior placenta becoming placenta previa?

Am unable to locate the thickness of the placenta in my scan report, any clues to help me find out...

Am 160cm(~ 5.3 feet), 69 Kg am little overweight, does having Mama Protinex or Mother Horlicks adds more weight? Is it recommended?

Is it good to have banana daily? some comments says it will make the baby attach to the womb?

Am a vegetarian, what food do you recommend?

Brief Answer:
the position of fetus constantly changes

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
Here are the answers for your query.
1)No pain during menstruation is not going to effect the placental position or any.
2)Yes persistence of low lying placenta till term without moving upwards might favour breech position ie.,head up position of fetus.
3)Sideway position of fetus is normal at this gestational age.
4)Gradually the capacity of uterus or womb increases during pregnancy. So the uterus grows both transversely and vertically. As the uterus grows the placenta gradually moves up.The fetal position adapts itself to a comfortable position inside the uterus. The fetus position does not effect the direction of growth of uterus.
5)There are 4 grades in placenta praevia.Low lying placenta is grade 1.Grade 3 &4 are severe types. No there might not be Change in grade during the course of pregnancy.
6)Thickness of placenta is not important.Grade of placenta is important. They vary from 0-4 indicating the maturity of placenta. There might be 0-1 at this age of pregnancy.
7)Mama protein or horlicks might not add to weight. But avoid high calorie diet.
Usually 10 kg weight gain is required in pregnancy during the pregnancy. But in your case 5 kg weight gain might be adequate.
8)Yes banana can be taken .It is rich in folic acid and potassium. It does not have any sideeffects.
9)All types of veggies and green leafy veggies ,fruits ,dry fruits ,milk are essential.
Adequate fluids upto 3 litres per day are essential.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.

Brief Answer:
gastritis is common in pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I have gone through your query.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the joining of prenatal classes might not be a good option.Take rest and avoid physical strain till the follow up ultrasound shows normal study with normal positioning of placenta. As such nothing to worry but proper care is to be taken till it moves up.
For acidity gelusil syrup or tablet is safe.Avoid spicy and oily diet.Take food in small quantities every 2 hourly.Butter milk intake daily also reduces acidity.Lehar soda is not advisable.
No cough during vomiting doesn't harm the baby.
Dont worry.Have a happy pregnancy.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
