default
Posted on Thu, 2 Jun 2016
Question: Just got UA back, High was the following:
Blood TRACE H
Leukocyte Esterase
WBC 21-50 H
RBC 3-5 H
Culture: No growth (<1,000 organisms/ml)
What does this mean? BTW my doctor told me I do not need antibiotics and said I don't have a UTI. So, what gives with the abnormal labs? I forgot to ask my doctor.

Brief Answer:
UTI is ruled out, plenty of fluids and protected sex are recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Presence of 21-50 white blood cells (WBC) in urine and presence of leukocyte esterase in urine suggests presence of urine infection.
However, urine culture with less than 1000 organisms rules out possibility of urine infection with particular bacteria.
Less than 1000 organisms are normally found in urine and it is not indicative of urinary tract infection.
Pus cells can be normally present in urine due to sexually transmitted diseases (STD).
Thus, you need to be cautious about your sexual life.
Practicing unprotected sex can lead to transmission of both urinary tract infection and sexually transmitted diseases.
Taking plenty of fluids will be helpful in clearing the infection in urinary tract which obviously qualify for urinary tract infection.

Thanks and take care
