Brief Answer:
Yes it can help

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Sovaldi is for hepatitis c genotype 1 to 4. So it can definitely help you. But it has to be a combination regime, along with pegylated interferon plus ribavirin.

You will need to discuss with your hepatologist to see if you meet all the eligibility criteria.

Hope this helps.

I've been in a faithful marriage for 31 years, never abused drugs. however I had a bout of alcoholism for 15 years but gave it up completely on 9/9/2008 and I gave up completely 1 pack of cigarettes per day in January 1985. I don't understand how I contacted this virus. My question, should my husband be tested for this virus also, he currently battles with blood clots and is currently on blood thinners.

Thank you for your quick response. I spoke to my 82 y/o mother whose only health issue is chrome's, diabetes and HBP, she indicated that she had been diagnosed with HPC b4 I was born due to a blood transfusion, therefore that's probably how it was it was transmitted to me and therefore probably to my 2 adult children. Yet she never had any liver problems or complication. Due to enormous amount of money to pay for my treatment, due you recommend I refinance my home to cover treatment for my husband, 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren?Correction: Refinance my home to pay for treatment for myself, husband, 2 grown children, their spouses and my 2 grandchildren?

Brief Answer:
I am sorry I won't be able to answer that

Detailed Answer:
I understand that it would cost a lot of money and insurance may not be covering all but I won't be able to suggest you anything about refinancing your house. You would have to ask a qualified professional for that advice.

I apologize, I didn't mean to ask you whether I should refinance my home. What I'm asking is it medically wise to find the necessary financial means to finance my treatment and my families treatment. Also what are the medical procedures, processes and affects for treating children for HPC?Also what are the side affects for failure to not treat HPC?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Indranil Ghosh (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes medically it would be wise

Detailed Answer:
As the disease is treatable, we should try for treatment by all means. Children are usually treated by similar medicines as adults, doses will be lower.

If chronic hep c is left untreated, it can progress to cirrhosis of liver, or liver cancer. These are usually fatal.
