What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Apr 2016
Question: Because i take meds daily (PPI, tylenol) I asked to be tested by dotors locally a few times over the last 6 months, the most recent about a 30 days ago. Urinalysis, bloodwork and exam all have come back normal each time. All doctors said no diabetes and kidney function looked good.
Docs said everything looked good actually.
My wife has switched jobs so we are uninsured until march 10th.

Last week i noticed bubbles in urine. My urine is yellow but not bright or dark yellow when i see this. The bubbles do dissipate to just a few along the sides of the bowl by the time i wash my hands or within several minutes.
The bubbles also go away if i drink water and my urine is clear or just slightly yellow.
My question is if kidney issues are ruled out as well as diabetes.
I have no changes in frequency and no urgency.

My lab work results are below.

BP - 127/82
Pulse - 78

BLOODWORK
Serum creatine - 1.1
BUN - 12
Glucose - 107
A1C - 5.6

Alt and ast are WNL and red/ white count normal.

URINALYSIS
Glucose - negative
Protein - negative
Blood - negative
Bil - negative
No bacteria or evidence of UTI or infection
Method was midstream collection.

XRAYS
All normal

Are these bubbles likely from being a bit dehydrated.

Brief Answer:
Bubbles probably due to mild dehydration

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Healthcaremagic.com.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
Thank you for providing a detailed history with all the investigations.

Let me assure you that all your investigation reports are within normal limit. Hence, do not worry.

Bubbles in urine can occur due to a few reasons, dehydration or pregnancy being the commonest causes, also these are seen in hypertension, diabetes, urinary tract infection and a few more conditions.

All other common causes can be ruled out from your investigations. Hence, dehydration seems a probable choice. Plus you have mentioned that when you are adequately hydrated, bubbles are less. This also goes in favour of dehydration.

So take lots of oral fluid, have healthy diet, exercise regularly. It is very good to get checked every 6-8 months by a doctor and get investigations done if suggested. So you can follow it also.

Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.

Thank you for responding. Im a 41 y/o male by the way.
Yes, when i drink just a few glasses of water the only bubbles i see are when stream impacts the water but they disipate almost instantly and by the time im finished urinating, the toilet has zero bubbles. After only the water intake mentioned i remain urinating without bubbles for several hours, even when a slight straw color has returned to urine.
So if i was leaking sugar or protein my labs would have shown something? Also, hydration wouldnt make much of a difference in seeing bubbles if kidneys werent functioning correctly?
Thanks for the help.
This all started when chronic back pain inceased slightly and didnt seem so central to the spine.
My orthopedic said he believed it was muscular as well but sent me to GP to be thourough.
I paid for labs and urinalysis out of pocket so im wanting to avoid unneccesary testing because im
Over analyzing.
Again, thank yo

Brief Answer:
Dont worry; this is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
In kidney dysfunction or diabetes or hypertension, bubbles may occur. But if you are suffering from any of these, it would have shown in the investigations.
And in concentrated urine which occurs in dehydration, bubbles are common.
You need not undergo any further investigations.

Do not worry, relax.
Wish you good health.
Regards.

My other concern was my blood sugar level when waking up. I have taken it on a home glucometer off and on (every week to 10 days) for few months and its reading between 100 -130.
This is the only time i get somewhat off readings.
I eati only one large meal at night and usually fall straight to sleep within 30-45 min. I told my doctor this.
Ive been doing this for years being that im a fireman and very busy during day. I already know its not a great pattern.
My doctor said this is the reason for having blood sugar levels a bit higher than normal in mornings.
He said my other readings and A1c are what cause him no concern.
My daily random blood glucose is anywhere from 80-110 and after a meal or snack it is not mch different at 90-120.

Brief Answer:
Follow as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Sorry for late reply.

First of all, you need to adjust your meals. It is always better to take small frequent meals throughout the day.
You need to have atleast four meals a day, two small meals and two comparatively larger. Otherwise you will end up with gastritis problems gradually.
Carry dry food and fruits with you so that you can have them anytime.
Now, for the blood sugar results- you need to do a fasting and a post prandial blood sugar test done from laboratory. Random blood sugar tests in home glucometer are not confirmatory at all.
And yes, your doctor has rightly pointed out the cause behind your slightly increased readings.
So I will conclude by again emphasizing on your irregularity of meals and advise you not to worry about your blood sugar unless your laboratory reports come abnormal.

Wish you good health.
Regards.

The only thing i changed yesterday was that i ate lunch during the day also consuming only 1 soda as opposed to 4-5,and last night i stayed up about 1.5 hours after eating before going to sleep.

Brief Answer:
Blood sugar levels are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Sorry for being late with the reply.

We generally accept fasting blood sugar levels below 110 and two hours post prandial blood sugar levels below 140 as normal. Deviation upto 5-10 more is allowed and diet modification is sufficient.
Your blood sugar levels are perfectly in normal range, so you do not need any drugs. You need not check it so frequently either.
Get it checked every 2-3 months and that would be enough.
Relax.

Wish you good health.
Regards.
