What Does My Endoscopy Report Indicate?

Posted on Tue, 22 Aug 2017
Question: I had an endoscopy on 5/11/17. They discovered a small ulcer at the top of my stomach, gastritus ans esophagituts. I was put on Protinix which I took for 2 1/2 months. Also i ate a restricted diet - no coffee, tea, citris, tomato, etc. during that time. In the past few weeks I developed pain in my upper stomach right under my ribcage, off and on nausea and sometimes a full feeking in upper stmach. I have discomfort off snd on under right ribcage and upper right shoulder in back. I recently had an ultrsound of my gallbladder, pancreas and liver. They saw sludge in my gallbladder. Also had an abdominal cat scan - no sbnormaliites fiund.
Do you think a barium gi test should be done?Could it be a gallbladder. Issue causing the symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Gall bladder involvement is bery unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for query.
All your symptoms are classical of gastritis and acid peptic disorders.
Pantoprazole is a baseline drug used to treat gastritis etc.
If not relieved by it a number of other drugs should be combined with this pantoprazole for complete relief.Take a proton pump inhibitor like Esomeprazole 40 mg twice daily along with a prokinetic drug (eg.Domperidone).
Take peptobismol along with it.

As per your query-
Barium swallow is far inferior to endoscopy as endoscopy has already been performed i don't feel like Barium has any role in your case now.
A better idea would be to repeat endoscopy.

Gallbladder problem is usually associated with very severe pain in right side of abdomen(Pain is usually not felt in ribs or sternum area).

Sludge i dont feel can give you so many symptoms.

Secondly as you have diagnosed ulcers you should be given Sucralfate(Ulcer healing agent).

Thanks!
