Brief Answer:
Please don't worry. There is no reason for concern.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! I have been through your question.

First it is a good news that you have a negative HIV test.

Related your concern you should know that the recommendations for post-PEP HIV testing are 4-6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months from the date of exposure.

Based on these recommendations I think that it is fine that you have done the 4th generation HIV test immediately after 28 days of pep treatment.
Furthermore you should know that this 28-day treatment with HIV drugs greatly reduces the chances of becoming infected with HIV but to be more confident and to have conclusive result I suggest to follow the above mentioned recommendations and to do 4 th generation test even after 3 months and 6 months from the date of exposure.

I hope my answer helps you. Feel free to ask me further.
Regards.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX

Read a few articles..some places it says to do hiv test immediately after 28 day PEP treatment is over

and some say..once PEP treatment of 28 days is over..i have to wait one month to test..

I want to know since i have done it immediately after 28 days of PEP treatment and 1 month of exposure..does it affect the result of the blood test?

and how accurate is 4th gen hiv tests and std tests taken after 28 days of PEP & after 1 month of exposure and r

Brief Answer:
Please see the detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for writing back,

The recommendations related HIV test after PEP treatment (test after 4-6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months from exposure and after PEP), that I mentioned above are according to the CDC and WHO and these guidelines are quite reliable (you can check them at their official website itself).

Usually, you should know that in cases where post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is given, a 6-month follow-up test is recommended due to the fact that antiretrovirals may reduce replication and prolong antibody response but it still depends on what kind of HIV test is done.

So, 4th generation (Antibody/antigen) test and STD test which is taken after 28 days of PEP and 1 month of exposure are very accurate but to be more confident regarding HIV, you need to retest as well after 3 and 6 months from exposure.

I hope my answer helps you. Let me know in case of any further doubts.
Regards
