What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: Hi Doctor,

Ive been having neck stiffness and pain since last 40 days but i have no clue whats going on.

I showed to ent specialist and took MRI scan and he said all looks good from ent perspective. Later i visited ortho, took x-ray and MRI and he said there is muscle spasm but im not sure as i being a sportsperson.

I wonder if i have menengitis? Would appreciate if you can guide me on this.

Ive taken muscle relaxative and it did no good.. right now im just applying gel which again seems not so effective.

Any specific tests you would like to suggest?

Thanks in advance

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history well and understood the concerns.
Neck stiffness and pain of 40 days duration is a long to suffer.
Since the relevant tests that you mentioned show no ENT problem and the Orthopedic Surgeon said about muscle spasm, the causative factors can be found out:
Neck is part of the body that is persistently used when not in sleep. Hence if there is no strict rest to the part, the spasm does not go away by some medicines as you have mentioned.
Hence the following things may help you get a good recovery:
It is possible that there is faulty posture of the neck at the desk/table may be while working at the computer or so, that you have to get corrected such as adjusting the height of chair, keyboard, screen.
Using the ''neck-collar'' of the correct size and height so that the neck muscles are kept at relaxation.
This to be aided by correct prescription based medications such as:
Anti-inflammatory medication
Muscle relaxants
Local Rubefacient liniments
May be oral steroids in tapering dosages for its strong anti-inflammatory action and also to resolve the fibrosis of fibromyalgia that must have settled as this is a 40 days old problem.

The vicious cycle of Pain > spasm > pain > spasm has to be broken.
Control of anxiety and/or stress too helps a lot if you have.

I hope this answer helps you.
Take care, start following the Principles as just mentioned above and tell me the results in followup.
