default
Posted on Fri, 4 Dec 2015
Question: I have been having nagging pain in my right ankle for the past 6 months. Had an MRI recently. Report says "peroneus longus/brevis show stir/PDFs hyperintense signal intensities with minimal fluid around the tendon->peroneal tenosynovitis. Mild marrow edema in lateral malleolus. Minimal ankle joint effusion with mild posterior ankle impingement."

Is it a serious condition? Pls clarify abt the treatment.

Brief Answer:
You are having perineal tenosynovitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. You are having tenosynovitis of peroneal tendons. This is not serious condition. Its primary treatment is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Rest to ankle joint is needed so less walking is advisable and a splint can be used. Vitamin B and C help in recovery.
In some cases where it doesn't respond to treatment of rest and analgesic I found local triamcilone injection in the tendon sheath along with rest and analgesic as very effective in treatment.
Rarely operation ( release of sheath) is needed.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
