What Does My MRI And CT Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: I had an MRI, with contrast, done 6 months ago with no mention of any abnormality of the pineal gland.

About 1 month ago, I had a CT scan done of my head that mentioned pineal gland calcification.

Should I be worried, since it was not mentioned in the previous MRI?

Brief Answer:
Ct-scan more sensitive in detecting calcification.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Can you please send in the reports of the both MRI and CT-scan to get them analyzed myself?

Pineal gland is a small, pine-cone shaped structure located in a groove between the laterally placed thalamic bodies. Its main function is the regulation of sleep-wake function (as it produces melatonin).

This gland has tendency to get calcificated by the time. There are some factors that would accelerate the calcification process including:
- fluoride, pesticides, mercury, food additives, etc.
- sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco use
- excessive calcium
- tap water

MRI is an examination with low sensitivity in detecting calcification of pineal gland. Unlikely, Ct-scan is highly sensitive in detecting calcification. This explains why no calcification was found in previous MRI.

Hope it helped!

Thank you.

I do not have the reports at hand.

The CT report stated that I should follow-up with my primary doctor, as the pineal gland size was approaching 1cm and this could potentially be indicative of a tumor.

I spoke with my primary doctor, who reviewed both the CT report and previous MRI.

He stated the MRI did not make mention of anything worrisome, so there is no need to worry.

Do you agree with this assessment or should I consult a neurologist?

Brief Answer:
Ask for a second opinion from neurologist...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

If I was your caring doctor, to put our minds at peace, I'd refer to a neurologist to be sure there is no tumor.

I too think there is nothing to be worried about as long as there is nothing worrisome reported in MRI and ct-scan and no clinical symptom. However, to be completely sure, I'd ask for a second opinion from neurologist.

All the best!
