What Does My KUB Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: Hi Doctors
My son was diagnosed with Right paraureteric diverticulam with Robotic excision and reimplant with stent removal done on August 22,2016.After 2 months my son underwent KUB ultrasound. Here are some of the findings.
1. The right Kidney measures 6.8 cms. Cortical echoes are normal.
2. No Significant calyceal dilatation
3. Mild Dilatation of the renal pelvis is seen-it measures 7.5 mm in AP width
4. The Right Upper ureter is collapsed.
The right ureter is dilated measuring 8 mm. Mild urothelial thickening is seen in the distal ureter.
Post void there is a decrease in the pelvic dilatation in the right kidney. No change in the appearances of the right distal ureter on the post void scan.Urinary bladder is normal in contour. No evidence of intraluminal pathology.
We are afraid by the statement The right upper ureter is collapsed and we are not clear on the scan report given here is whether the hydronephrosis grade is reduced to 0 or 1.The doctor gave medication for him to take Lactulose solution for 3 months and then the Hospital visit for the KUB and Urinary routine and culture before taking an MCUG test.
Please advise us further for this report.

Brief Answer:
Perform a CECT or contrast CT-IVU.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist,i can understand your concern.

You should write the age of your child.
You should also send the pre-operative scan of his, showing the diverticulum.

The follow up scan of your son, should be a CECT.(contrast CT).
Before this,he should get some tests done,to assess his present condition.
1. urine routine and culture.
2. blood routine,creatinine,LFT.RBS and platelets.
3. CECT or CT-IVU.
According to these reports,an expert opinion can be given.
Wishing your son well.
