What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017
Question: Hello doctors!

Just a quick question.
Having right upper quadrant pain, that seemed to return after having unexplained sharp stomach pains (lasting for a few days; still present), the ruq pain had gone away since changing my diet and excercising.

My two questions comes in that when i had a CT scan (also with contrast) some months ago, they found a 4mm cyst on the liver, but the description also said that the scan was grosly normal and no appearance of legions.

1) should this cause some alarm (such as something cancerous) due to it being a growth on my liver, even though the doctor didnt mention it?
2) could a cyst be causing this ruq pain that seems to not really go away?

Thank you so much!

Brief Answer:
4 mm lesion on liver can not be the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the whole history well, read the report and understood your concerns.
To answer your queries:
1) should this cause some alarm (such as something cancerous) due to it being a growth on my liver, even though the doctor didn't mention it?
4 mm is a very small lesion and if cancerous, the Radiologist would have raised the concern and advised follow-up too.

2) could a cyst be causing this ruq pain that seems to not really go away?
No, not at all. Small lesions of this size are not known to cause any pain.

In addition change in diet has helped you means the cause was obvious and hence continue with the changed diet.
CT and MRI with MRCP are normal and would have picked up anything else too and reported accordingly.

I hope this answers your queries, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Understood. Neither the radiologist or my doctor mentioned anything about he cyst. I caught it recently when just reading the report. Unless they both simply missed it. The odd thing is thst whatever caused this sharp stomach pain/nausea to occur, also caused this ruq pain to return as well .

Brief Answer:
Yes.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, indeed.
I do not think that anyone might have missed it.
The report mentions specifically that no suspicious focal lesions; 4 mm CYST incidentally seen in the left lobe of the liver. Cyst unless proved otherwise is a simple cyst and not of any clinical significance.

If i may ask dcotor,

If a stomach ache/nausea is lasting from sunday until right now, to where a pepsi aggravates it, what do you think could cause a prolonged stomach ache? And is there any test that youd recommend getting at my doctors?

Brief Answer:
Acidity related problems.

Detailed Answer:
Prolonged stomach ache and nausea aggravated by pepsi is indicative of acidity related problems like gastritis or ulcer.
An upper GI Endoscopy would help to find the cause.
Symptomatic relief with a PPI like Omeprazole, antacid every three hours and Domperidone as motility regulator can help in relief and diagnosis too.
