Brief Answer:
Multiple small peripherally arranged follicles in both ovaries is found in polycystic ovaries

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Follicles are tiny fluid filled areas in the ovaries where the eggs are found. In normal women, one of the follicles becomes a dominant follicle and grows in size in every cycle and releases the egg during ovulation which happens in the mid cycle phase.

In polycystic ovaries, the ovaries are enlarged and there can be multiple small follicles arranged peripherally in the ovaries. This is a feature of polycystic ovaries on ultrasound scan. Please discuss the ultrasound scan findings in detail with your doctor.

Hope your query is answered.
