What Does High Hcg Level Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Jul 2014
Question: It is about my hcg level. At 5 weeks (3 days), my number was 48000. I've looked and looked and can't find anything that compares. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks, 2 days and everything looked good but I feel the tech, who was unaware of my hcg numbers, only looked to confirm one good baby. The ultrasound was done abdominally and took a couple minutes. Should I get another ultrasound?
I tried to explain this to a nurse at the office but she insists all is well....I don't understand?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. You are right. Your hCG levels are high. There is possibility of multiple pregnancy.

2. Another possibility is that hCG report could be wrong.

3. I suggest you get transvaginal ultrasound scan done to check if there is another sac. Transvaginal is better than abdominal.

4. Make sure fetal heart activity is started.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards
