Question: I just got the results of an ultrasound and it said heterogeneous area in the body of the pancreas. What does this mean?

Thank you for your reply. I am a 46 year old female. At a check up I mentioned that I had had a few incidents of discomfort in my upper abdominal area after I ate. My doctor suggested gallbladder and sent for the ultrasound.
I have copied the results of the ultrasound here:
US ABDOMEN LTD
INDICATION:
Abdominal pain. 46-year-old.
FINDINGS:
Liver is normal in size and demonstrates increased echogenicity
diffusely suggestive of fatty infiltration No focal liver lesion is
seen. There is no intra-or extrahepatic biliary dilatation.
There are no gallstones with no gallbladder wall thickening or
pericholecystic fluid. Areas of small amount of sludge or sand like
gravel in the gallbladder. This is XXXXXXX and non-shadowing. Tiny
non-shadowing stones are not excluded.
There is a heterogeneous area in the body of the pancreas with
suggestion of thickening of the pancreas. Lesion should be excluded. CT
or MRI evaluation is recommended with contrast.
The abdominal aorta is non-aneurysmal. IVC is patent.
Right kidney is normal in size and echogenicity, and measures 12.3 x
4.1 x 5.8 cm . No renal lesions are seen with no hydronephrosis. No
calculi are identified sonographically.
Impression
IMPRESSION:
Echogenic liver suggest fatty infiltration. Small amount of sludge
versus and like gravel is present in the gallbladder. No gallbladder
wall thickening or pericholecystic fluid. Per technologist no
sonographic Murphy's sign.
Heterogeneous area of ovoid thickening of the pancreatic body. The
appearance is changed from a 2011 ultrasound. Lesion should be
excluded. Abdominal CT or MRI with contrast is recommended

Hi back,
I have gone through the ultrasound report you sent in and to my opinion, you should run ct-scan examination to evaluate the heterogeneous are of ovoid thickening of the pancreatic body.
With regards to small amount of sludge in the gallbladder, I advise to:
- make some changes in your diet with foods less in fat
- discuss with your doctor about the possibility of starting therapy with ursodeoxycolic acid
- increase water intake
