Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Hi
I am frequently passing urine, not during the night but at times during the day i can find myself needing to visit the loo almost every hour.My intake of fluids would not be excessive. i have had a recent colonoscopy which was clear.a full medical last year was also positive in that nothing negative showed up.my question is,what are the likely causes of this as it is somewhat disconcerting.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Could be diabetes, infection, psychogenic, prostate disease, etc!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this frequent need to visit the bathroom for urination. It could be caused by several different factors and I have listed a few for you. However, I will recommend that you get fully evaluated by a general physician as making the right call is not possible without a more detailed evaluation. I will not be surprised if this ends up being psychogenic than caused by another disease condition. Are you on any medications and for how long has this been going on? Do you urinate as much at night as during the day? Is the quantity of urine just enough or excessive or small?

In all, there is no reason to get too worried at this time. I wish you well and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
