Brief Answer:
colonoscopy test

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Elevated ferritin levels indicate that you have a condition that causes your body to store too much iron.

It could also point to liver disease, rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory conditions or hyperthyroidism. Some types of cancer also may cause your blood ferritin level to be high.

Since your CT scan abdomen is showing wall thickening in sigmoid colon i will advise you to do a colonoscopy test to rule out colon cancer.

Brief Answer:
blood test for TSH and RA

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Normal levels of ferritin in blood ranges from 24 to 336 micrograms per liter.

Ranges higher than this may indicate thyroid problem and rheumatoid arthritis.

Since your colonoscopy is not showing cancer and you are diagnosed with diverticlosis and IBS and your liver function tests are normal i will advise you to do blood test for thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) and rheumatoid factor (RA).

Brief Answer:
yes, your doctor is right

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Higher than normal ferritin level in blood may also indicate hemochromatosis which is a condition that causes your body to absorb too much iron from the food you eat.

To rule out this condition you need to do transferrin test and abdominal MRI and your doctor is right.

I would advise you to blood test for TSH, RA and transferrin along with abdominal MRI to rule out thyroid problem, rheumatoid arthritis and hemochromatosis.

Answered by Dr. Monish De (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi

As per the tests that you have sent me you do not need to worry.

The cause of high ferritin level in blood needs to be found out hence the additional tests needs to be done.

The condition is perfectly treatable and you should be fine after 1 month of treatment.
