What Does "diverticular Changes" On An Abdominal CT Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: I had an abdom CT scan last week. The lab report says "diverticular changes"? I know there are 2 different kinds, there is a very large hiatal hernia, the bladder is not well distended? And that, most of my stomach is actually in the chest?? What does all this mean?

Brief Answer:
need more info

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Am i right in asuming that diverticuli are in the colon?
Did the CT show presence of inflammation around the diverticuli? what is the size of the hernia?
It would be helpful if you could upload the ct report.
I would need some information about your pain

If there is no diverticulitis on CT, then diverticulitis are not a cause for worry.
A hiatus hernia can cause a difficulty in swallowing which can be managed with antacids in majority of cases and does not pose any immediate problems.

I read you "word for word" from the CT report. "diverticular change of the colon with possible minimal pericolonic stranding and inflammation in the left lower quadrant", Large retrocardiac hiatal hernia." "Most of the stomach is actually within the chest." "No lymphadenopathy, no ascites and no hydronephrosis." Sorry, but I don't know how to up load anything(paper or pictures)

Brief Answer:
might need surgery for hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Seems like you will need surgery for your hiatus hernia in case your symptoms persist. There is colonic diverticulosis.it can be easilybteated with antibiotics.
I would suggest high fibre diet with fibre supplementation with psyllium husk to prevent future diverticulitis.
You can take nuts and seeds once the pain has stopped.
