What Does Category 2A Tubes In Hysterosalpingogram Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 May 2014
Question: Hi Doctor, I had my Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) test done 8 months back. My results were "Category 2A" - Both tubes patent with free spillage. However, in both my left and right tube, the observation was that "Fimbrial ends clumped". Is this a case for concern? I am currently undergoing my first IUI and still waiting to test. Will IUI work for me?

Brief Answer: Yes Detailed Answer: Hi, I read your query and I understand your concerns. Following is my reply: 1) Category 2A tubes indicate little unhealthy fallopian tubes. 2) Though both tubes are patent and open, the clumping shows the tubes are not completely healthy. 3) In such a situation you can still go ahead with 3 cycles of IUI. 4) If you dont conceive with 3 cycles of IUI you can consider option of going for IVF. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Regards, Dr. Mahesh Koregol Infertility SPecialist

Hi Dr, I read somewhere that the fimbrial ends clumping is normal and that only during ovulation that it unclumps itself to collect the egg. Is this true? I am obviously quite anxious about IUI failures and having to go through more invasive procedures. Is Laproscopy the next logical step if all 3 IUI's fail before deciding on IVF? Thanks.

Brief Answer: Yes Detailed Answer: Hi, The clumping occurs very little during ovulation and is not so much to be seen on HSG. More over HSG is not performed in ovulation period. It is performed before ovulation in the beginning of cycle. Laparoscopy can be an option if 3 IUI fail before proceeding to IVF. I understand your anxiety. But these are steps that have to be taken one after another if you dont conceive. Regards
