Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Yes, a blood sugar of 180 mg/dl in gestational diabetes needs to be treated with antidiabetics, preferably insulin.

Let me know if I could help further.

But 180 was after 2hrs of GTT test....Nd I never had sugar before pregnancy....
Can't it be treated with medication rather than insulin

Brief Answer:
Treatment with insulin is recommended

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
A 2 hour GTT value from 140 to 199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes but for pregnant women it calls for treatment. Insulin is the recommended treatment and although there are other medicines available, I think that going for insulin would definitely be better. You need not worry. It hardly hurts.

Brief Answer:
Follow up required

Detailed Answer:
Yes, HbA1c level indicates a 3 monthly average of blood sugar levels. It is not expected to be raised. But a raised GTT level indicates a vulnerability that can develop during pregnancy. You might need monitoring. If the subsequent levels are found to be raised as well, you would need to be treated.
