Brief Answer:
could be piles or fissure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

The cause of blood in stools could be either due to fissure or piles. In both this condition fresh red blood is present in stools .

in case of piles motion may be normal and sometimes mass may come out of anus.

in case of fissure motion may be hard and pain during passing stools .

For diagnosis you need to get your father examined by a surgeon.

If he is passing dark brown coloured stools then bleeding will be from higher up. Since his age is 69 I would advice you to take colonoscopy after consulting a surgeon to rule out cancer which should be ruled out at this age.

Hope I have answered your query .
If any further queries are there I would love to help .
