What Does A Sore Spot On The Penis Shaft Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: A few days ago I noticed something on the shaft of my penis near the base. I haven't had unprotected sex in over 2 years and haven't had any sort of sores or lesions ever before. I have not had any type of STI test besides HIV done before so I was wondering whether this could be something like Herpes or something more benign and non-contagious. Also this apprared a day or two after i had shaved in that area so i was wondering if it could just be irritated from that. Regardless on what this may be I'm still going to have some bloodwork done to check me for STI's, I was just hoping I could get a medical opinion sooner.

Brief Answer:
It is hair follicle infection-inflammation after shaving

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

You have uploaded clear photographs.

After reading your history and seeing images I can conclude that it is inflammation/ infection of hair root follicle.

It is common. It occurs due to minor injuries due to shaving. In general it heals in 3-4 days.

Keep hygiene and do not wear tight clothes.

You can use small amount of topical clindamycin gel cream.

You can go for bloood check up if you wish, it is going to come normal likely.

In any case it does not heal in 4 days or causes another lesion or too much discomfort , consult doctor for oral antibiotics and antiinflammatory medicines.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Thank You for your answer. It definitely makes me feel much better. It has been loke that for about 5 days. It may be alightly better than before but it's hard to tell. It does not cause any pain, but i am still concerned about its appearance. I assume the clindamycin gel is perscription only? I have a previous scheduled appointment with my GP on Friday so i'll ask him if not better. Is there any OTC creams/ointments/etc. that may speed up the healing process?

Brief Answer:
no OTC and no need to use anything if no pain or discharge

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for follow up.

You can wait if no pain or discharge. It is also better not to use any OTC.

You can see your GP on friday and moslty you will be fine before that.

If more redness, discharge or increase in size try to consult doctor before.

Take care.
