Question: I HAVE A COATING IN MY MOUTH THAT I BELIEVE IS CONNECTED TO A SWOLLEN PLACE ON THE BACK OF MY NECK AND A CONDITION WAY BACK ON MY TONGUE THAT ARE ALL CONNECTED SINCE I WAS ON CHEMOTHERAPY. THE STOMACH IS ALSO CONNECTED. I HAVE SMALL WHITE SANDLIKE OBJECTS COMING OUT OF MY HEAD FACE AND THROAT THAT ARE NOT DANDRUFF.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The coating on your tongue and oral cavity likely to be connected to your stomach problems. A coated tongue is a common condition also seen with acid reflux, dehydration, decreased salivation and fungal infections. Do you ahve any symptoms such as burning or altered taste?

2. Whether it is connected to the swelling on the back of your neck depends on what condition the chemotherapy was given.

3. Small white sand like flakes coming out of the throat may be tonsilloliths or concretions of secretions from lymphoid tissue. The similar objects from the face and head have to be skin flakes assuming that the skin is intact. Sinusitis may lead to such a discharge from the nose. These objects can be collected and sent for microscopic examination which will settle the diagnosis.

4. Hence a direct examination, a videolaryngosocpy and imaging such as a sonography and scans will be required to identify the swelling at the back of the neck.

5. If you can upload images of these sites, it will help.

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
