Question: What does stable calcified granuloma of the liver mean? Was a result from a recent CT. Wife having chills, leg cramps, pain on mid left side of back, frequent bowel movements and weight loss. Had a bout with pneumonia a month back and was given levaquin.

Brief Answer:

Means it poses no present problem to her health!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The main word stable means it has been monitored over time and there is no growth in the calcified granuloma. If it were an active disease or ingoing disease process, subsequent imaging would show changes in size of structure.

This is not the case and as such there is little to worry about. How are her liver function test and if an AFP marker was measured, what is the value.

Given her symptoms of chills, abdominal pain, weight loss, etc., we must rule out cancer. Am glad to hear a CT scan is already scheduled. It might also be good to get a colonoscopy if the last one dates more than 5years.

Keep me updated about this findings. Main goal at his time is to make sure there is no cancer and teh CT abdomen is the ideal approach to this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Thanks for the quick response. We are definitely concerned about the possibility of cancer.
Unfortunately AFP has not been checked recently. Some other results of possible relevance;
WBC. 11.11
Creatinine. .68
BUN. 8
Atypical lymphocytes. 4%
AST. 13
ALT. 11
Albumin. 3.2

Last colonoscopy was only a few years back.

Will pass along CT results as soon as available.

Thanks again

Brief Answer:

Have reviewed. They are normal!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

These results are grossly normal. We will need to see what the CT says. In the interim, be calm as we work to figure out the exact cause and address it. No matter what, remember most conditions can be treated with recent advances in treatment.

I wish you well. I look forward to the CT findings.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
