What Does A Bump On A Bruise Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: I have a very large area of bruising on my forearm. No itching but I do feel a little bump there. Can this be caused by an insect bite? If so, anything to be done? Along with this I am experiencing what feels like hot flashes and sweating periodically throughout the day. ;May be completely unconnected of course. ;I am way past the age of menopause! Other than that, no particular symptoms.

Brief Answer:
It seems to be an insect bite.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

I read carefully your query and understand your concerns.

Your two problems (the bruise in your arm and the hot flashes ) doesn't seem to be related to each other.

Since you feel a little bump in the bruising area in your forearm ,most likely it is due to an insect bite.
The lesion it is due to the local inflammatory reaction against the insect bite.
Since it doesn't itch and hurt ,you don't need to do nothing. It will go away in its own.It may take some days to weeks for that.
You can apply some cold compresses and massage the bruised area to decrease the swelling.
If the swelling is very significant you can use a mild steroid cream like Hydrocortizone to decrease this swelling.

Regarding the hot flashes and excessive sweating ,they might be related to some diseases like:

-Thyroid dysfunction(over-active thyroid gland or hypothyroidism).
This is the most common cause for such symptoms in post-menopausal women.
You may need to get tested your thyroid function testing :FT3,FT4,TSH.

- Some infections that cause fever, like those in the urinary tract or respiratory tract may be the cause for your hot flashes and sweating. You may need to run an urinalysis and a chest X-ray to exclude some options.
- Carcinoid syndrome, an illness in which a tumor releases chemicals into the body, creates symptoms that are also very similar to hot flashes.
-Stress and anxiety can cause hot flashes.

-If all these options are excluded after have been diagnosed and examined ,these hot flashes and sweating might be related with hormonal imbalance.
Some studies have suggested that some women may experience hot flashes and sweating even many years after the menopause. It might be your case but first other pathological causes should be excluded.
Since you don't have other symptoms ,more likely your symptoms are caused from hormonal imbalance.

If these symptoms persist I would suggest to consult a physician and get examined.

Hope it was of help.
