What Does "Mild Tenosynovitis Of The Peroneus Longs And Brevis" Mean?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: Xray and ultra sound results: Mild tenosynovitis of the peroneus longs and brevis. Full thickness tear of the anterior talofibular ligament. A small joint effusion is seen.

Swelling has reduced over the last three weeks but ligament and tendons still painful. Limping.
All the professional advice seems to contradict each other.
What can I do to treat both the ligament and tendons without making one or the other worse?
I am 75 years old and very fit.

Brief Answer:
You are having mild tendinitis of peroneus tendons.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern.

There is mild tendinitis of both peroneal tendons. Full thickness tear of the anterior talofibular ligament and small joint effusion indicate probability of degenerative changes also as it is common at your age. Rest to joint is primary treatment of tendinitis. You can use crepe bandage or netball strapping(which you are using) and walking should be restricted till pain subsides. You can use ibuprofen for pain relief. Diacerine and glucosamine prevent and to some extent repair degenerative changes.

If no relief from these measures is there then triamcilone (a long acting steroid) can be injected in tendon sheath along with continuing these measures.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
