What Does "Klebsiella Pneumoniae" In An Urine Analysis Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: Hi there! This past Tuesday I found out through my Naturalpath Doc that I have Klebsiella pneumoniae (throughout a urinalysis). He prescribed me Bacrtim.
The thing that makes me REALLY concerned/nervous, is I had one symptom for about a month before finally telling my Doc (I ignored or always forgot about, unless I was using the restroom).
I have a good friend who's a Pharmacist & he strongly suggested I see an Infectious Disease Doctor.

Should I just stay the path with the Bactrim or see the Infectious Disease Doc?
What is your take on this?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Klebsiella pneumoniae urinary infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Since your urinalysis /culture & sensitivity showed growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae ,you should take antibiotic as per sensitivity test. Please go through your urine culture /sensitivity report and if you find Klebsiella pneumoniae is sensitive to sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim ,you can continue with Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim ) as prescribed by your doctor and repeat urine culture & sensitivity after the course of antibiotic to confirm elimination of urinary infection.

So what I'm understanding by your response, is that I should just wait til this coming Tuesday, when I'll be re-tested, and NOT consult with an Infectious Disease Doc?
My Pharmist friend said that (especially after waiting so long), he feared that if it spread to my lungs, then that's a MUCH bigger issue.

Thank you.
