Question: Hi, I tested for Typhoid today and the readings are as below:
Salmonella Typhi O: 1:80
S Typhi H: 1:80
S Tyhpi AH 1:40
S Typhi BH 1:40

I was being asked to get medicines for next 3 days (twice every day) which costs about 800 every time(400 Medicide+400 Ward Charges). I was not advised any rest or any dietary plans during these days. Can you help me identify if am guided correct, let me know if you will need any additional details.
Thanks in Advance.

Brief Answer:
Need to take antibiotic for at least 7 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Greetings from Dr Divakara P
Thanks for posting your query.

First of all a value of 80 is typhoid test is not confirmatory of Typhoid . Either you need to repeat the test after 1 week and if it shows increasing value then it is confirmative of typhoid or you can get another we test called IgM Typhi dot which is a better test for typhoid.

Even if it is typhoid you need to take antibiotics for 7-10 days and not 3 days , also if you are able to take medicine by mouth and you are not vomiting then no need for injections or hospitalisation.

Regarding diet , drink hot water, eat less oily food, avoid non veg food and avoid curds , buttermilk.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

Regards.
