Question: I would appreciate if you could please review this scan and let me know if you would recommend a forminal injection and explain what this is

I would like your view on both scans and if you think a facet injection would help

Brief Answer:
Depends on the severity of symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
There is mild disc protrusion and dehydration at C5-C6. If there are nerve compression related symptoms like tingling, numbness or muscle weakness in the hands then facet injection will be helpful.
Otherwise increasing the fluid intake and taking oral muscle relaxants with regular physiotherapy will help in gradual relief from the symptoms.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Manythanks.. my only concern at the moment is the stiffness which can be very difficult to deal with...
upper arm nerve irration is there for the last year...do you think this could make it worse.. also what is the difference between a facet joint injection and a nerve block.. do you think a nerve block or rhyztomy or epidural would be better

also is a forminal injection the same as a nerve block
thanks
I find you excellent and so patient but I am extremely care ful about what I do

Brief Answer:
Nerve block is not needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Facet joint injection is less likely to help with the stiffness. It will decrease the nerve irritation.
Nerve block is given when there is an extreme pain due to nerve compression. It can cause a temporary muscle weakness also. It is not same as foraminal injection. Epidural injection is similar to nerve block. In your case foraminal injection would be better.
Hope my answer is helpful.

two things
The Facet injection.. I was talking about for my neck..i have quite a lot of nerve irration in both arms you have seen these scans

Second of all..the lumbar spine..Dr. XXXXXXX you have seen report suggested a foraminal injection for L3l4 and also l4l5 forminal injection.. are these injections different to epidural and nerve block and are they dangerous..
do you think my neck scan is very bad.. it does give me a lot of trouble.pain in shoulder blades down the arms both and hands and around the neck
thanks

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
I have seen the cervical spine scans. The nerve irritation is there. Facet injections will help in reducing the nerve related symptoms and can relieve muscle stiffness to some extent.
For lumbar spine, the foraminal injections are different from nerve block or epidural and is safer and more effective than a nerve block.
The neck scan is not so bad. Physiotherapy, hot compress and a warm shower will help in decreasing the stiffness and symptoms.

do you think that the discs in the neck are severely degenerated..?
thanks
do you think that palexia is a goo drug for nerve pain
what exactly will a foraminal injection do?
would you be recommending surgery at all for the neck or do you think I could end up having it in later years
do you think that a foraminal injection is better for the neck that I have than a nerve block..or facet joint injection..this is not canal stenosis in the neck? The arms gets extremely sore..obviously irration of the nerve..can you suggest any other drug.. I have gried gabapentin but find it difficult to take.. would it be worth taking steroids..th..thanks
is the disc bulge big...just wondering...thanks

will a foraminal injection be ok on both sides as I have bilaterially pain..
is neck surgery safe..
thanks so much
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Praveen Tayal (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Palexia is used for chronic pain.

Detailed Answer:
The discs in neck are mildly degenerated. Not severe. Palexia is a good quality pain killer and is used to treat chronic pain. For nerve related pain pregabalin or gabapentin are better options.
Foraminal injection will decrease the inflammation near the foramina thus reducing the pressure on the exiting nerve roots.
It is better to avoid the surgery for now. You could have it later if needed.
Regards.
Brief Answer:
Foraminal injection can be taken on both sides.

Detailed Answer:
Since you have bilateral pain you can have foraminal injection on both the sides. Do consult with your neurologist. He will guide you more regarding the options. Neck surgery is also a safe procedure. It will decrease the pressure on your nerves.
Regards.
